Stop PPP

For those of you who don't know, the Government is forcing through PPP for the London tube network. Most Londoners are not happy about it...

Margaret Thatcher abolished the Greater London Council in the 1980's and until 2000 the City was without any form of London-wide co-ordinated local government.

The Labour party was responsible for setting up a new London-wide government as part of their manifesto commitment when they were elected in 1997. Last year Londoners were given their chance to vote for a Mayor.

Despite Central Government trying to foist a candidate on us we didn't want, London voted for Ken Livingstone. Part of his manifesto was to oppose the proposed PPP (part privatisation) of London Underground and instead he proposed to raise the much needed money for regenerating the tube network by the use of bonds.

Ken won an overwhelming majority of the votes and brought in an expert, Bob Kiley, who has previously transformed the New York subway system.

Unfortunately the Government (particularly Tony Blair and Gordon Brown) is very unhappy about this and is now forcing through PPP against the will of the electorate.

You can help to stop PPP...
